U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Tuesday that Russia had “clearly failed” to achieve its goals with the invasion of Ukraine.

Russia has “clearly failed” to achieve its three main goals with the “brutal” invasion of Ukraine, said US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

On February 24, Russian forces launched military operations in Ukraine, three days after Moscow recognized Ukraine’s breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent entities.

Sullivan told reporters that Russia plans to achieve three basic goals by launching its unprovoked attack on Ukraine: first, to subjugate Ukraine; secondly, to increase Russia’s power and prestige; and third, to divide and weaken the West.

“Russia has clearly not achieved all three goals so far. In fact, it has achieved the opposite so far,” Sullivan said on Tuesday.

OBJECTIVE 1: TO COVER UKRAINE

“First of all, the brave citizens of Ukraine refuse to submit. They are fighting back. They are defending their homes. They defend their cities. And while Russia may occupy more territory in these brutal military operations, it will never take the country away from the Ukrainian people, “he said.

OBJECTIVE 2: INCREASE RUSSIA’S POWER

“Second, Russia’s power and prestige are severely undermined. The performance of the Russian army is dramatically worse. Russia’s economy has been shaken by strong sanctions. Russia’s high-tech and defense industries are being deprived of major investment. And Russia is a pariah in the international community,” he added.

OBJECTIVE 3: DISTRIBUTE THE WEST

“Third, the countries of the free world are more united, determined and determined than ever before,” he said.

US ACTION
Since President Joe Biden and the United States began warning the world of impending Russian aggression in November, the United States has made three clear and consistent efforts, Salivan said.

“First of all, help Ukraine to defend itself by supplying arms and military equipment; secondly, to impose heavy and rising economic costs on Russia by imposing unprecedented sanctions in close cooperation with its allies and partners in Europe, the Indian and Pacific regions and other parts of the world; and third, to strengthen the NATO-Western alliance by improving the position of our forces on the eastern flank and making our allies more resilient to other forms of Russian aggression, ”he said.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the United States and its allies rushed to impose extensive sanctions on the Russian economy, as well as financial sanctions on the Russian president and his immediate elite.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has forced more than 3.5 million people to flee the country, according to UN figures, with Russian forces continuing to surround and bomb Ukrainian cities.
