Russian military launches more airstrikes on Ukrainian cities
Russian forces continued to bomb Ukrainian cities, launching at least four missile attacks on Kharkiv, the second largest city, as Ukraine fought back by firing artillery and hitting ammunition depots inside Russia.

Fighting in Ukraine comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin defended recent moves to escalate the war by deploying more troops to the country.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military said it had captured more than 600 settlements from Russian forces in the past month, according to the country’s Ministry of Reunification of Temporarily Occupied Territories, as Russian forces attacked dozens of cities in Ukraine. The ministry said late Thursday that some 502 settlements had been liberated in the northeastern Kharkiv region, where Ukrainian forces advanced deep into Russian lines last month, and that 75 areas had been recaptured in the highly strategic Kherson region. .
