
Ukraine reports heavy Russian missile strikes in east and south
Local governor Pavlo Kirilenko said four civilians were killed in an attack in Siversk, a town in the Donetsk region.
The civilian areas of Druzhkivka were also attacked in the same area. A supermarket was destroyed and a large crater appeared nearby.
Russian ground forces appear to have made no significant progress in their attempt to capture the rest of the Donetsk region over the past 24 hours.

Ukrainian officials also reported Russian missile strikes on parts of Kharkiv in the north, Mykolaiv in the south and the southern city of Krivy Rih, northeast of Mykolaiv.
Ukrainian forces are fiercely defending Mykolaiv, a strategic river port on an important route to Odessa, Ukraine’s main export hub. The Russian Navy is blocking Ukraine from sending grain from Odessa.
Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Irina Vereshchuk urged residents to leave the Russian-occupied parts of Kherson and Zaporizhzhya in the south. This warning seemed to be the start of more Ukrainian counterattacks.
The Russians have captured the city of Kherson, but Ukrainian forces have retaken parts of the region.

Area police accuse Russia of deliberately destroying crops. In a Facebook post he shows pictures of burning fields and says: “Every day there are massive fires, hundreds of hectares of wheat, barley and other cereal crops have already been burned.” He also accused Russian soldiers of destroying barns and farm equipment and preventing locals from putting out the fire.
In Krivi Rih, Russian Grad rockets damaged a school and a house, and a 41-year-old woman was killed, local governor Valentin Reznichenko said.
Russia’s defense ministry said its forces destroyed a hangar containing the American M777 howitzer at Chasiv Yar near Kramatorsk. Russia’s next main targets in Donetsk are expected to be the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
The United States says it is supplying four more high-precision rocket systems to Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelensky says HIMARS rockets are being used to strike depots and ammunition stores in Russian-controlled territory, making it very difficult for Moscow to re-supply.

In the UK, British Army bases are now being used to train Ukrainians in combat, the UK government says. They aim to train 10,000 Ukrainians in the coming months.
In a new intelligence update, the UK military says Russia is moving reserve forces from across the country to positions near Ukraine for future operations. But he says many of Russia’s reinforcements are “ad hoc groups, deployed with outdated or inappropriate equipment.”
