State police have warned against posting provocative messages on social media, assuring that the situation is under control.
Violence erupted at a World Hindu Council (VHP) rally in Bangladesh on Tuesday evening in protest of a series of attacks on Hindus during Durga Puja. Hindus are a minority in Bangladesh.
“North Tripura district police are taking legal action in the C / W incident that took place today. The situation is under control. Some people are spreading rumors and provocative messages on social media. I appeal to everyone not to believe such messages. Do it and keep it. Peace.” Tripura police tweeted.
“Legal action will be taken against those who spread rumors on social media platforms and try to disrupt the peaceful environment,” police said.
According to police sources, strict security measures have been put in place in all the sensitive areas to avoid further deterioration of the law and order situation.
“Activists of the World Hindu Council have staged a rally in protest of the recent violence in Bangladesh. During the rally, a group of people hurled stones and damaged the door of a mosque in Chamtila area. Security forces reached the spot and brought the situation under control,” PTI district police superintendent Vanupad Chakraborty was quoted as saying.
