
Seven army personnel killed in avalanche in Arunachal confirmed
Seven army personnel have been confirmed dead after an avalanche hit them on February 6 in the high altitude area of Kameng sector of Arunachal Pradesh.
According to the Indian Army, the bodies have been retrieved from the avalanche site.
The army airlifted a search and rescue team to the scene.
In a statement, the army said that inclement weather with heavy snowfall is being reported in the area for the past several days.
The Chumay Gyatar area is about 100 km from the district headquarters of Tawang.
Seven soldiers belonged to the 19th Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, an infantry regiment of the Indian Army.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has condoled the death of seven army personnel.
Mamta said, “Deeply saddened to know about the unfortunate demise of 7 of our brave jawans in the line of duty in a snow storm in Arunachal Pradesh. Our jawans are making selfless efforts for our safety and security. My salute to the jawans. My deepest condolences to his family and colleagues.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also expressed grief. “Sad to learn about the death of Army personnel in the avalanche tragedy in Arunachal Pradesh. My deepest condolences to their family and friends. We salute the martyrs,” he said.

External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar said, “Deeply saddened by the loss of lives of Indian Army personnel due to avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh. Those who guard our borders risk their lives everyday. Their service to the nation and Deeply grateful for the commitment. My condolences to the bereaved families.”
