
Shooting in the New York subway: eyewitnesses said they saw it
Service has been halted on the D, N and R trains in Brooklyn and some stations in Manhattan, and passengers were told to expect major delays on those lines as well as the B, F and Q.

According to reports, several people were shot at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday morning. A New York City Fire Department spokesman said firefighters responding to reports of smoke at 36th Street Station in Sunset Park found several people were shot.
The police department tweeted that “there were no active explosive devices at this time.” Mayor’s spokesman Fabian Levy said several smoking devices were found at the scene, which confirmed the initial shooting injury count.

According to officials, the suspect who fled was a man with an orange vest and gas mask, who is about 5 feet, 8 inches and weighs about 175 to 180 pounds.
Here’s what eyewitnesses say:
“My metro door opened in disaster. It was smoke and blood and people were screaming,” eyewitness Sam Carcamo told radio station 1010 WINS, adding that he saw a huge bill of smoke billowing out of the N train as he opened the door.
Danny Mastrogiorgio of Brooklyn had dropped off his son at school after he saw passersby, including several injured, who were climbing the subway ladder at 25th Street station in a panic. At least two have suffered leg injuries, he said.

“It was crazy,” he told the Associated Press. “No one knew what was really going on.”
Alan Lee was running his business, Cafe Nube, when half a dozen police cars and fire engines suddenly gathered on the block.
“Then they started moving those people to a nearby block and then closed the entrance to the subway,” he told the AP. When he saw the officers and dogs of the bomb squad, he was convinced that this was not an everyday subway problem.

Juliana Fonda, a broadcast engineer for radio station WNYC, told local news website Gothamist that she heard shots in an adjacent subway car.
“The reaction of the passengers was horrific as they were trying to get into our car away from what was happening behind the train,” she said. “None of us in front of the train knew what was going on, but people were running fast and running behind them, trying to get on the train.”
He said he heard “very loud noises” and there was smoke in another train car.

Konrad Ederer, a commuter, was in the stairwell to enter 36th Street station when he saw a man bleeding from his legs and explained what had happened to a worker at the station booth.
“He just said a lot of people were bleeding,” Ederer told Fox News in a phone interview. “He took it upon himself to make sure people remained alert even if they were injured.”
