Sikkim got two new districts Soreng and Pakyong, the names of the remaining four changed
Sikkim has added two more districts to its number of districts. Sikkim has two new districts: Soreng and Pakyong.
Soreng was part of West Sikkim district, Pakyong was part of East Sikkim district.
In this regard, the Government of Sikkim has issued a Gazette Notification. From December 21, two new districts, Soren and Pakyong, came into existence.
The newly formed Pakyong District will consist of Pakyong, Rangli and Rangpo subdivisions. Soren district will have two subdivisions – Mangalbar and Soreng.
Two new districts have been created under the Sikkim District Reorganization Act 2021.
The Sikkim District Reconstruction Act was recently passed in the state assembly. With the creation of two new districts, the total number of districts in Sikkim has increased to six.
In the meantime, the names of the remaining four districts have also been changed.
Where North Sikkim district has been renamed Mangan, West Sikkim will be called Galshing.

On the other hand, East Sikkim district has been renamed as Gangtok and South Sikkim as Namchi.
Gangtok district is divided into two subdivisions – Gangtok and Rabdang. Gyalshing will have three subdivisions – Gyalshing, Dentum and Yuksom.
Mangan district will have four subdivisions – Mangan, Kabi, Janggu and Chungthang. Finally, Namchi District will have four subdivisions – Namchi, Jorethang, Ravangla and Yangang.
