Situation tense in Assam after 3 killed in Nagaland taxi collision

The situation turned tense in Dhodar Ali area (between Mariani and Golaghat) as locals of the area blocked the highway on Monday to protest against a road accident in which three members of a family lost their lives.

According to reports, the mother, daughter and son-in-law died on the spot after a Nagaland taxi (Tata Sumo) collided with the scooty, which was on its way from Dimapur to Mokokchung.
According to preliminary reports, Mokokchung police sources said that the taxi with six passengers and the driver lost control after the tire burst and hit the scooty coming from the opposite direction.

Police, however, said that after the intervention of Assam Police, the passengers reached their destination safely while the driver was taken into Assam Police custody.

Travel Advisory Following the incident, ADC Mangkolemba, Dharma Raj issued a travel advisory for citizens against traveling through the said route. The ADC advised all Nagaland/origin passengers via Assam to avoid using the said route until the prevailing situation calms down.
Further, all passengers traveling to Mokokchung have been advised to take the Golaghat-Merapani-Champang-Sonowal route to avoid unnecessary harassment at Mariani, Assam.
