The first North-East Omicron case has been identified in Manipur
The first Omicron case in the Northeast was detected on Monday when a 48-year-old man from Imphal West district in Manipur, who had recently returned from Tanzania, tested positive for a new form of COVID-19.
Health officials said the man was already in an isolated condition at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal East district. She is asymptomatic and has no medical complaints.
Manipur Health Services Director K Rajo Singh said in a statement, “Omicron form of SARSCOVID2 has been detected in an international traveler who arrived in the state from Tanzania.”
After testing positive for the Covid-19 after arriving in India last week, samples for complete genome sequencing were sent to the recently opened laboratory at the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (ISBD) in Takilpat, Imphal.
Rajo said three people who came in contact with the man were also found positive and their samples were sent to ISBD for full genome sequencing. He said that all the three have been kept in special isolation.
