Three rhinos from the Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation Center (CWRC) in Kaziranga National Park were moved to the Assam State Zoo here on Thursday, officials said.

The process of moving the rhinos, a male and two females, began on Thursday morning from CWRC Park in the Panbari area, and the troika was on their way to Guwahati, Ramesh Gogoi, a forest officer in the Eastern Wildlife Division (EAWL), told the PTI. .

He added that the whole process had been completed smoothly and that the troika was expected to reach its destination late in the evening.

Kaziranga National Park

Rhinoceros between the ages of two and three were injured and taken to the CWRC in 2019 and 2020, where they were treated and completely cured, CWRC chief Ratin Barman said.

He added that special wooden boxes were made for each of the three rhinos and were transported in separate vehicles.

A separate enclosure has been set up at the Assam State Zoo, where they will be kept in solitary confinement for a month before visitors can see them, DFO (Zoo) Ashvini Kumar told PTI.

Upon arrival, veterinarians will check the health of the transferred rhinos and their condition will be monitored regularly, he said.

Previously, the CWRC team, along with the Assamese Forest Department, moved 20 hand-picked rhinos from Kaziranga National Park to Manas National Park.

Eleven (11) rhino calves were born to rehabilitated rhinos in Manasa National Park.

The CWRC is a wildlife care facility co-managed by the Indian Wildlife Trust (WTI) and the State Forest Department, supported by the International Partner International Animal Welfare Fund (IFAW), and established in 2002 in the Panbari area of ​​the park.
