Tourist killed in paragliding accident at Assam resort
A 35-year-old tourist died after falling in a paraglider at a temporary resort on the banks of the Dibru River in the Tinsukia district of Assam. Officials provided the information on Thursday.
The Tinsukia County Administration suspended all operations at the resort and ordered an investigation into the incident.
Official sources report that the resort was built illegally on the banks of the Dibru River in Guizana, as the area is part of the ecologically sensitive area of Dibru-Saikhowa National Park and offers a variety of adventure sports such as paragliding.
The paraglider, identified as Pankaj Gogoi, fell from a parachute when his towing jeep got stuck in the sand for some reason.
He was seriously injured and died on the way to the hospital, the official said.
Locals claimed the site was built illegally and owned by an entrepreneur who was a “BJP leader.”
A local who wanted to remain anonymous said: “We have complained to the district administration several times. Recently, a team from the Forest Department inspected the resort to see if it was run according to government instructions. But still nothing happened.”

On Thursday, the Tinsukia County Magistrate ordered an additional County Magistrate, Mondji Borkakoti, to investigate the case and all aspects of the incident, including resort security measures.
ADM is requested to submit the report within three days.
“To ensure the safety of visitors, all activities of the resort are immediately suspended until further notice,” said the district magistrate.
