Tripura artisan hanged himself for not completing Durga Puja pandal on time
The artisans took drastic action after pressure from club officials, which was destined for them.
Agartala: It is alleged that a craftsman was hanged for not completing the puja pandal on time.
The incident took place in Bishalgarh subdivision of Sepahijala district in Tripura.
The deceased, identified as Udayapnama, allegedly committed suicide after failing to complete the decoration of the pujo pandal handed over to him on the day of ‘Mahasasthi’.
However, according to sources, the artisan could not complete the work due to lack of artisans.
It is learned that Shilpa Nam was under a lot of pressure from the club officials who were threatening his family members from ‘Mahasasthi’. Later, Nama was not found anywhere during the Durga Puja festival.
However, on Wednesday, the hanging body of the artisan was recovered from the forest near his house in Murabari area under Bishalgarh subdivision.
Family members of the artisans complained that club authorities had taken full responsibility for the artisan’s death. Police have filed a case of unnatural death.
In another case of suicide, a prisoner in Barpeta allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ventilator in October.
It is suspected that a prisoner named Hasbul Hasan committed suicide due to heart disease. However, Hassan’s family members have alleged that he was killed. This matter is under investigation.
