Tripura is now the first bamboo park in India to be set up to promote the industry in the northeastern region, while the first, multi-purpose bashgram (bamboo village) of its kind in the state has been set up to promote eco-tourism. According to reports, bamboo villages have sprung up at Katlamara in West Tripura on the Indo-Bangladesh border. For this, the youths have developed about 9 acres of land under the leadership of bamboo architect and work expert Manna Rai. It has already been able to attract many tourists from across the country, including environmentalists and foreigners, the report said.
The report said that the bamboo village has a yoga center, a playground, several ponds with lots of flora and fauna, bamboo bridges and paths, bamboo huts, various eco-friendly utilities and facilities.
More than 14 species of bamboo as well as many other natural plants, herbs, plants, shrubs and flowers make Bashgram a true natural habitat. In this context, Roy said, a museum will soon be set up in the village of Bamboo, where all kinds of obsolete, endangered, old and new items made of bamboo will be displayed.

He further said that the main objective of building the said bamboo village is to use local and rural resources properly and effectively without disturbing the nature. He further said that he has so far invested Rs 60 lakh in village development and has not taken any money from the government or any bank.
The goal is to transform Bashgram into a world-class medical-cum-eco-tourism hub using locally available resources.
