Two women were killed in an accident on the Gangtok-Nathula road

The deceased have been identified as Aruna Adhikari (27), a resident of Martam in East Sikkim and Lakshmi Lama (33), a resident of Selep Tanki, Gangtok.

Two persons were killed and one was seriously injured in a road accident at 12 miles on Jawaharlal Nehru Road in East Sikkim while returning from the Nathula border on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Aruna Adhikari, 27, a resident of Martam in East Sikkim, and Lakshmi Lama, 33, a resident of Selep Tanki, Gangtok. The driver of the vehicle, 42-year-old Shamir Diwan, was seriously injured and has been admitted to the hospital.

Among the two victims, Aruna Adhikari was an alumnus leader of Sikkim State University, who also worked as a news reader with a local media house. The officer and the lama were colleagues in an insurance firm based in Gangtok.
