Ukraine urges citizens to disclose Russian troops locations

Kyiv wants people in Enerhodar to reveal the identities of local allies with the occupying authorities.

Ukraine’s defense ministry has urged citizens in a key area seized by Russia to reveal where Moscow’s troops were living and who among the local population was cooperating with the occupation authorities.

The statement on Saturday by the ministry’s Directorate of Defense Intelligence was aimed at people in and around the southern city of Enerhodar, which is home to a major nuclear power station.

“Please immediately tell us the exact location of the positions of the captured soldiers and their residential addresses … and the residence of the commanding staff,” it said, adding that precise coordinates were desirable.

It also sought details of “local allies who went to the enemy’s side”, including where they lived and worked, as well as information about “people sympathetic to the occupiers”.

Russia captured Enerhodar in early March, and in May, the city’s Russian-appointed chief was wounded in an explosion. The Kremlin called it a “terrorist attack”.

In June, a pro-Russian officer was killed in an explosion in the southern Kherson region, the RIA news agency said. Earlier that month, the head of the area’s penal service was taken to hospital after a bomb exploded near his car.

The Intelligence Directorate appeal – published on Telegram – also asked about the routes Russian military equipment was using in Enerhodar.

“Together, drive the occupants out of our homeland!” This said, adding people can either call in details or provide them through WhatsApp or the Signal instant messaging app.

Enerhodar had a pre-war population of over 50,000. Many residents work at two power plants near the city, one of which is the Zaporizhzhya facility, the largest nuclear power station in Europe.
